Forum Spammer Registrations

IAPS is duly aware of forum spammers, whether they are post spammers, or the idle profiles with links to their junk or malicious websites type. IAPS has taken proactive steps to combat these all too common issues on nearly every forum worldwide. Recently we have seen the massive rise of Russian and Ukrainian forum spammer user registrations for the sole purpose of creating a user profile on a forum with the sole intent of getting their junk links to their scam or fraudulent websites listed on legitimate websites.

What they are trying to do is get legitimacy of their links on well known websites for both the benefit of search engines that crawl popular websites and report the links to search engines for future inclusion, as well as finding the average user that would actually click on their website links not knowing any better and most likely infecting their browsers or compromising their computers through an exploit after a user has arrived on their website.

IAPS has taken the following steps to curb and/or slowdown the process of forum spammers:

*The complete banning of any email address ending in .ru, .ua, .top, and other commonly abused free email providers.*

The next step is the complete banning of all free email account providers.

I might add that we vigilantly research users upon registration for clues that automated processes tend to miss at times. This is done manually and so is possible to catch a valid user in the net. My apologies if that is the case with you but the benefits of catching a spammer far outweigh the risks and keep this forum safer for all members.
